Local Sandwich, Lasting Impact: Supporting Our Littlest Neighbors
Posted by Jamie Jewell on Feb 06 , 2026 - 12:23 pm

At Schaub Team Premier Realty, community has always been at the heart of what we do. From helping families find the right place to call home to supporting the organizations that care for our neighbors, we believe small, consistent efforts can lead to meaningful change.
That belief is at the center of our ongoing partnership with Lylah’s and Leelanau Christian Neighbors’ Blessings in a Backpack program, a collaboration that continues to grow year after year.
Since 2022, Schaub Team has donated $1 from every “Not Tuna Schauby” sandwich sold at Lylah’s throughout the calendar year to Blessings in a Backpack. What started as a simple idea—pairing a local favorite with a local cause—has become a reliable source of support for children in Leelanau County who face food insecurity on weekends when school meals aren’t available.
In 2025 alone, this effort resulted in a $1,072 donation, helping ensure students have access to nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals so they can return to school on Monday nourished and ready to learn.
Why Blessings in a Backpack Matters
Blessings in a Backpack addresses a quiet but very real challenge in our community: children who rely on school meals during the week but lack consistent access to food on weekends. The program provides discreet, kid-friendly food packs that help fill that gap—offering peace of mind to families and stability for students.
This year, the impact of community support like ours is reaching even further.
Mary Stanton, Executive Director of Leelanau Christian Neighbors, shared her gratitude and insight into how these donations make a difference:
“Thank you [Schaub Team] for continuing this venture to support not just LCN but our littlest neighbors as well.
We recently partnered with LIFT in all four of our middle and high schools to further assure those children have access to food. Donations and support like yours help make things like that happen.”
Hearing how local contributions directly support new partnerships—like the expansion into all four middle and high schools—reinforces why we remain committed to this cause.
A Simple Idea With Real Impact
One of the things we love most about this partnership is its simplicity. Enjoy a great sandwich at a local restaurant, and you’re automatically helping a child in need. It’s an easy, tangible way for residents and visitors alike to give back while supporting two organizations deeply rooted in Leelanau County.
“At Schaub Team, supporting our community is part of who we are,” says Roger Schaub. “This partnership shows how a simple, local collaboration can make a meaningful difference for children and families in Leelanau County.”
We’re proud that something as ordinary as lunch can turn into something extraordinary for our neighbors.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, we’re grateful to everyone who has ordered a Not Tuna Schauby, shared this story, or supported Leelanau Christian Neighbors in any way. Community impact doesn’t always come from grand gestures—it often comes from small, steady actions taken together.
